Your Community Pub for over Eight years...
We hope you've all had a brilliant summer so far, and, hopefully we will now be enjoying a lovely Indian summer too. Our pub has enjoyed a couple of major changes recently. The first is that a Community Benefit Society, Stoke Canon Community Pub Limited was formed to buy the premises and save the pub for the future. After a year and a half of fundraising the village now owns the pub. This means that Stoke Canon Inn Limited (also owned by the village) which has been running the pub for over 8 years now has a new community landlord and its future is secure. Shares in Stoke Canon Community Pub Limited will continue to be sold until 14 September 2019 so if you haven't bought into this fantastic community venture then time is of the essence. The second major change is that we have a new bar manager, Charlie Stokes. If you haven't met her yet then pop in and say hello and make her welcome.
In September we have all of our regular events plus a new one. The Breton evening in July turned into a mostly traditional music session. As the Devon musicians enjoyed themselves so much we have decided to give it a try as a regular event every fourth Wednesday of the month. It will comprise of any traditional musicians that turn up (fiddles, whistles, concertinas, accordions, guitars etc) with no amplification plus the addition of an occasional song. Come along and reawaken your love of English traditional music.
Also in September we welcome Pennsylvania Railroad who you may have seen at the Stoke Canon Festival. They are a fantasically accomplished band playing classic rock and blues.
Check out our Events page for times and dates of all our activities and live music events.
If you would like to become part of the happy band of volunteers who are the beating heart of our pub then why not give us a call and get involved. Working behind the bar is a great way to meet local residents. Some of our bar staff have a regular shift every week for as little as 2 hours, some work every 2 weeks and some work once a month. If working behind a bar doesn't appeal to you we have a beautiful garden to tend and lots of other litle jobs that crop up from time to time. Let us know how you would like to become involved by getting in touch with Charlie, our bar manager or Maureen, our secretary on 01392 840063.
